Humphrey Humphreys

Humphrey Humphreys (November 24, 1648 – November 20, 1712) was successively bishop of Bangor and of Hereford (1701–1712).

Life

He was educated at Jesus College, Oxford and was later a Fellow of the college. A patron of Welsh literature, genealogical research and of the then newly-formed Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge (SPCK). Humphries stands out among Welsh bishops of his period. Edward Lhuyd spoke highly of his competence as an antiquarian.
